Washington Archbishop Donald W. Wuerl has named Thomas P. Duffy as chief financial officer for the Archdiocese of Washington.

Duffy has been with the archdiocese since last summer, serving as the executive director of finance. He has spent the past year familiarizing himself with the archdiocese in preparation to move into the role of CFO.

"Thomas Duffy brings years of professional experience in finance and management to this role, which requires oversight and good stewardship of the precious resources entrusted to our care," Archbishop Wuerl said. "Over the past year, he has demonstrated strong collaboration with colleagues, ably tackled difficult challenges with professionalism and been a key player in reorganizing our finance office," he said.

Archbishop Wuerl also noted Duffy's deep devotion to the Church.

In his new role, Duffy will oversee the archdiocese's business services and finances, including the budget, investments and fiscal reporting as well as real estate, information technology and office administration. The archdiocese includes 140 parishes, nearly 100 schools, central offices and several agencies that provide extensive social services such as Catholic Charities, Victory Housing and St. Ann's Infant and Maternity Home.

"I look forward to serving the archdiocese in this role and am grateful for the many dedicated professionals who serve alongside me," Duffy said.

Duffy has nearly 20 years experience in finance, management and business administration, with particular expertise in banking, investments and hedge funds. He spent seven years as an executive at Bank of America in Charlotte, N.C., before joining the archdiocese.

He holds an master's degree in business administration from the University of Pittsburgh and a bachelor of science in marketing and finance from Boston College.

Duffy, his wife and four children are members of St. Peter Parish in Olney. His children attend Catholic schools in the archdiocese.
