Catholic leaders decry California judge's decision on same-sex marriage
Saying that marriage between a man and a woman "is the bedrock of any society," Chicago Cardinal Francis E. George, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, denounced the Aug. 4 decision of a federal judge to overturn a California voter-backed initiative that essentially banned same-sex marriage.

Getting up early to take care of the baby, carrying a spouse's purse, and flirting with a spouse were just a few things people said when asked the question, "What have you done for your marriage today?" The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops posed this question to couples in parks and other public places across the nation and the video responses are posted on their marriage web site, foryourmarriage.org.

Officer killed on Easter morning remembered as man dedicated to family, faith and service
Montgomery County Police Sgt. Hector Ismael Ayala, who was killed early Easter morning when his cruiser crashed as he was responding to a fellow officer's call for help, was remembered as a man who was devoted to his family and his faith. "His faith was very important to him, his family was very important to him," said Father Raymond Fecteau, pastor of Our Lady of the Visitation Parish in Darnestown and chaplain to the Montgomery County Police department. "I am happy that we were able to give his family the comfort our (funeral) service gives."
