Pope Leo XIV on April 6 honored Pope Francis and urged Catholics to follow the late pope’s example by boldly proclaiming the truth in a world clouded by confusion and falsehood.

Speaking to pilgrims in St. Peter’s Square before the "Regina Caeli," Pope Leo recalled his predecessor, who died April 21, 2025, one day after giving his final Easter Sunday blessing. Reflecting on the Gospel accounts of the women who witnessed the risen Christ and the guards who took a bribe to deny the resurrection, Pope Leo said the contrast highlights the importance of Christian witness and honest communication.

He warned that truth is often obscured by “fake news,” lies, and unfounded accusations, yet insisted that truth still shines through the darkness. The pope called Christians to announce the Resurrection without fear, especially to those suffering from war, persecution and injustice.

"I hope you spend this Easter Monday and these days of the Easter Octave – during which we continue to celebrate Christ’s Resurrection – in joy and faith," he said. Pope Leo closed by thanking the faithful for Easter greetings and praying for peace worldwide.
