The fourth African National Eucharistic Congress will be held July 21-23 at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
The Congress – held every five years – brings together African Catholics from across the country to celebrate the visible, living presence of Jesus in the Eucharistic, share their faith and rich heritage. It is convened jointly by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Secretariat of Cultural Diversity in the Church, the National Association of African Catholics in the United States and the African Conference of Catholic Clergy and Religious in the United States.
The Congress theme is “A Response to the Priestly Prayer of Jesus: ‘That They May All Be One’.”
In addition to adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament, the event includes:
Opening Mass on Friday, July 21 at 8:30 p.m. Bishop Jerome Feudjio of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands, will be the main celebrant.
A welcome speech on Saturday, July 22 at 9:00 a.m. by Archbishop Christophe Pierre, apostolic nuncio to the United States.
A keynote address on Saturday, July 22 at 9:30 a.m. delivered by Washington Cardinal Wilton Gregory.
Workshops on various topics and a lunch and episcopal encounter with young adults on Saturday July 22, 2023.
The Eucharistic Procession on Saturday, July 22 at 2:30 p.m. led by Bishop Andrew Cozzens of Crookston, Minnesota.
A Unity Mass on Saturday, July 22 at 4:30 p.m. at the Basilica of the National Shrine of Immaculate Conception celebrated by Cardinal Gregory.
A Closing Mass on Sunday, July 23 at 10:00 a.m. at CUA celebrated by Bishop Wolfgang Pisa of the Diocese of Lindi, Tanzania.
