Friends of the Poor Walk set for Oct. 4 in Leonardtown

The St. Vincent de Paul Society will host its 18th annual Friends of the Poor Walk on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025, beginning at Father Andrew White School in Leonardtown, Maryland. The event, held rain or shine, brings together parishioners, families, and neighbors to raise awareness and support for those struggling to meet life’s most basic needs.

The walk will step off at 9 a.m. following registration at 7:30 a.m. Walkers will journey through the historic streets of Leonardtown before gathering for fellowship and festivities. A post-walk brunch, music, balloons for children, theme baskets for a silent auction, and door prizes will round out the morning.

There is no registration fee. Instead, participants are encouraged to collect pledges, make a personal donation, or invite friends and family to sponsor their walk. All funds raised directly benefit Southern Maryland residents in need of help with rent, utilities, food, and medicine.

“The goal of the Walk is to call attention to the needs of the poor and raise money to assist our neighbors with shelter and daily essentials,” organizers said. Last year’s Walk raised more than $14,000 in support of local families.

The annual event is hosted by the St. Vincent de Paul Conferences at St. Aloysius Church in Leonardtown and Immaculate Conception Church in Mechanicsville.
