Archdiocese of Washington prepares for annual #iGiveCatholic campaign on Giving Tuesday after Thanksgiving

Catholics across the Archdiocese of Washington are invited to join a nationwide wave of generosity this Giving Tuesday, Dec. 2, through the annual #iGiveCatholic campaign. Launched in 2015 as the first-ever Catholic day of giving, the initiative inspires the faithful to “Give Thanks, Give Back, and Give Catholic.”

The campaign invites Catholics to support parishes, schools, and ministries that carry out the Church’s mission of service and evangelization. Throughout the archdiocese, parishes, schools, and ministries are preparing to tell their stories, rally supporters, and make a meaningful impact in the wider community.

Last year’s campaign reached record levels both nationally and locally. Across the United States, #iGiveCatholic raised $23.4 million for Catholic causes. In the Archdiocese of Washington, nearly 2,500 donors contributed a combined $1,012,505. That total represented 4.3 percent of all funds raised and placed the archdiocese sixth among 50 participating dioceses. Those donations provided vital assistance to 269 ministries and organizations throughout the region.

This year’s featured ministries

Building on that success, this year’s archdiocesan #iGiveCatholic appeal is highlighting four of those local ministries:

  • Community Food Security Program – Strengthens parish and school food pantries and hot-meal programs serving those facing hunger.
  • Office of Consecrated Life – Supports religious men and women who live and minister throughout the archdiocese.
  • Needy Parish Fund – Provides crucial support to parishes with limited resources so they can continue to serve their communities.
  • Catholic Schools Office – Helps ensure faith-based education remains accessible to thousands of children across the Archdiocese of Washington.

These featured ministries represent only a portion of the outreach sustained through #iGiveCatholic. From Catholic Charities to parish-based outreach programs, gifts made through the campaign strengthen year-round service and evangelization efforts across the Archdiocese of Washington.

  • Mail contributions using the campaign envelope provided by participating parishes.

For participating parishes

Organizers say successful parish campaigns often share three key traits: storytelling, goal setting, and engagement.

Storytelling: Donors connect most deeply when they see how a ministry transforms lives, such as a child thriving in a Catholic school, a family receiving emergency help, or a volunteer answering a call to serve.

Goal setting: Clear, specific goals help donors understand where their gift goes and the difference it makes.

Engagement: Consistent communication through bulletins, social media, and personal outreach keeps momentum strong. Matching gifts have also proven effective in motivating parish participation.

Important dates

The early-giving phase opens Nov. 17, with the live Giving Tuesday event on Dec. 2. Ministries throughout the Archdiocese of Washington are launching their outreach efforts in the coming weeks, inviting parishioners, alumni, friends, and supporters to participate.

As Giving Tuesday approaches, Catholics throughout the Archdiocese are encouraged to reflect on gratitude and generosity and to join a growing effort that strengthens the Church’s mission of service, one gift at a time.
