The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington will host a Eucharistic Procession for Immigrants on the Feast of Corpus Christi, June 7, gathering Catholics and community partners to pray, walk, and publicly witness to the dignity of immigrants and refugees. The theme of the procession – “We are the Body of Christ caring for the wounds of the world” – highlights the Church’s call to accompany vulnerable communities.

The events begin at noon with Mass celebrated by Bishop Evelio Menjivar, auxiliary Bishop of Washington, at the Shrine of the Sacred Heart, 3211 Sacred Heart Way, N.W., Washington, D.C.

At 1:30 p.m., a Eucharistic Procession, led by Bishop Menjivard departs from the Shrine of the Sacred Heart and proceeds to the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle, 1725 Rhode Island Ave, N.W., Washington, D.C

During a Eucharistic procession the consecrated host is carried through streets or sacred spaces to honor, adore, and witness Christ to the world. More information about this event is available at https://adw.org/event/eucharis...

This event is being organized by the Archdiocese of Washington as part of the Season of Faithful Witness, a national coming together of Catholics to engage in public prayer, reflection, and acts of solidarity to proclaim that every human person bears sacred dignity, including those harmed by unjust immigration policies. Processions and Masses for the Feast of Corpus Christi focusing on the dignity of immigrants and others will be held around the country, including Albuquerque, Jacksonville, New Orleans, New York City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Seattle. The archdiocese is collaborating on the local procession with the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle, the Shrine of the Sacred Heart, Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Jesuit Refugee Service/USA, and NETWORK Advocates.
